Trauma resolution and PTSD
Throughout life we carry our memories of the past.
Some are good, some are not hinder our present reality. Though memories are important for shaping who we are becoming, it is paramount to differentiate which ones are serving us and which are not.
Our brains are typically looking for pleasure and avoiding pain. When “pain” occurs, (conscious or unconscious) our brain will do everything it can to save us or protect us from a trigger that could look or feel similar to that event. This protection mechanism is a survival mechanism that is necessary for life threatening situations. When an interpretation of an event is understood as “life threatening”, it can hinder our objectivity in any given situation and affects the outcome.
Simultaneously, we have these “operating system” memories that are running in the background and sharing our reactions to events that are happening in the present. E.g. Someone may have laughed at us when we tried to sing a song when we were a child and this may have hurt and impacted us for later. Our “operating system” is keeping that “pain” as a life threatening event and will place us in a high “alert” mode. That is when we can become defensive, aggressive or simply shut down….
We learn these protective behaviours and sometimes practice them even when they no longer help us. We tend also to accumulate them overtime. It can start at a very young age in our subconscious mind. Fears, apprehensions, stigmas and distrust disable us from living the life we want.
What if you had a chance to erase the emotional charges attached to these memories? Conscious or subconscious?
